How the drill works

The drill runs 5 trials. On each one the panel holds on a neutral colour for a random wait — somewhere between 1.5 and 4 seconds — so you can never predict the exact moment it turns. The instant it changes, you click, and we record the gap between the colour change and your click as that trial's reaction time.

The random wait is the whole point: it stops you from timing the click in advance and forces a true reaction. Your session result is the average of your 5 valid trials, which smooths out the odd unlucky lapse and gives a steadier read than any single tap could.

How to improve your reaction time

The honest answer is that most of your reaction time is fixed, and the biggest swings come from state, not skill. Being well rested, alert, and undistracted matters far more than any amount of drilling; fatigue and a wandering mind are what usually add the milliseconds. A dose of caffeine can nudge you a touch faster for a while, and so can simply warming up with a few practice rounds before the ones that count.

Practice does help a little — you learn the rhythm and stop wasting motion — but the gain is small and arrives fast, then flattens. Anyone promising that reaction drills will meaningfully raise your intelligence is overselling it; the sensible goal is to catch yourself on a good, focused day rather than to train your way to a new number.

Does practising here make me faster in real life?

A little, and quickly, then it plateaus. You will shave a few milliseconds off as you learn the rhythm of this exact drill, but that gain rarely carries over to driving, sport, or gaming.
